The Coos Cup Charity Golf Day is an annual event, held in Remembrance of a Son, Brother and Dear Friend, Cobus van der Walt.
The Coos Cup Charity Golf Day is a Celebration of a life that was sadly and unexpectedly cut short when Cobus was tragically taken from us in a road accident on the N14 outside Krugersdorp, in the early hours of December the 3rd 2003.
His 24years was one lived with passion, emotion, laughter and love for those who crossed he’s path and the old cliché – “Never a dull moment” – must surely have been said with Cobus in mind!!!
The following year a couple of us decided that something must be done by which we can commemorate his life, what he meant to us but also to give us the opportunity to be amongst get all the mates together and have some fun.
Due to Randfontein’s golf course being a definite favourite with Coos, which could probably be attributed to the very competitive pricing that the 19th hole had to offer, it was the obvious choice to host the, sixteen-player strong, inaugural Coos Cup in 2004.
The annual Coos Cup which has grown in leaps-and-bounds over the last 9 years, has become a stand-out highlight on many of our calendars and the 2011 Event boasted a field of 50 players all vying for the coveted Coos Cup!
The yearly “celebration” of Coos’ life also created an opportunity for everyone who knew him personally, his family and many more to come together for a day (and night!!!) of celebration in the true sense of the word but with the knowing that there’s a bigger picture behind “The Day”.
When hosting the Annual Coos Cup, we do it in the spirit of true and lasting friendships – old and new – and to remind ourselves and others that life is far too valuable to deny sharing one’s compassion, care and ultimately one’s life with their fellow man.
But above all we celebrate being fortunate enough to fondly remember the great times spent in the company of a person such as Coos, whom I’m sure has left many of us with a deeply ingrained sense of fulfilment in knowing in our own lives…
We thank you wholeheartedly for joining us at the 2012 Coos Cup and that you truly take something away with you when leaving… or getting thrown out by the barman!!
Whether you playing, “assisting” (see official Coos Cup Rule Book - available on request), rebuilding an old friendship or forging new ones, we trust that you will thoroughly enjoy the “Celebration of Life” that was Coos, with us for many more Years to come…Find out what's happening, right now, with the people and organizations you care about.
